Alya's trying. But keeping both her feelings and Ladybug's identity under wraps is weighing on her heavily, and sooner or later, one or the other is going to give out.

But maybe she isn't as alone as she thought…

Written for ML Rare Pair Month Day 22 Prompt - Help

Last entry (for now) for the Secret-Keepers/Scary Kwamis AU. But I've still got one more fic (unrelated) for Rare Pair month after this!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Marinette was talking about Adrien again.

Alya tried not to let it bother her. After all, it wasn’t Adrien who made out with Ladybug last night. And she’d promised, she’d promised Ladybug that everything was fine, that they could keep seeing each other, that she wouldn’t let it affect anything in her everyday life. She’d lied through her teeth, to herself as much as Ladybug, and said that she didn’t care that they couldn’t have a normal relationship – she just wanted a relationship.

That was easier to believe in front of Ladybug who loved her back than Marinette who had no clue.

But Alya had done her best to hold her tongue for the past month, since she found out. She’d done her best to be patient and supportive. She’d done her best to hide her knowledge of Ladybug’s identity, and never let on to Marinette that part of her life was buried in lies. Alya had done her best, and the stress was eating away at her bit by bit by bit.

She didn’t think she could last much longer, and she didn’t know what would happen if she broke. That kwami was watching, she knew, it must be to know when there was danger that Ladybug needed to respond to. And if Alya became the danger, the threat to Ladybug by being unable to keep the secret…

She didn’t want to think about that. She had to be strong.

But it was never harder than when she had to listen to Marinette pining after Adrien.

“…and then I’ll ask him out for ice cream and we’ll get married and have three kids and…Alya is something wrong?”

Damn Marinette’s senses, oblivious to her own role but keen enough to spot a friend in distress from a mile away. This wasn’t the first time Alya’d nearly been caught.

She told herself to fake a smile, and tell Marinette that someday, Adrien was sure to see how amazing she was. But Alya choked on her words. She didn’t want Adrien to see that. She wanted to be selfish; she wanted to have Marinette herself.

She could always have Ladybug, but it would be wrong to be with her if she was already with someone else as Marinette. Even if Ladybug didn’t know that, it would still be wrong, and Alya would feel guilty about it. She felt guilty enough already while Marinette was technically single.

I…I can’t do this any more,” Alya said, before she could stop herself.

Adrien keeps disappearing on her, and Kagami is determined to get answers, even if it means crossing an ancient being of immeasurable power.

Written for ML Rare Pair Month Day 13 Prompt - Don't Go, and set in the same AU as The Secret Kept from Yourself.

----------------------------------------------------

Despite her general fondness for him, there were two things that frustrated Kagami about Adrien. One was that he never stood up for himself. The other was that he had a habit of disappearing at inconvenient times. Naturally, her patience with these faults ran dry fairly quickly. But no amount of chastising him for either made any difference, so Kagami decided to change tactics. When the opportunity arose, she would pit these two impulses against each other, and see how it played out.

The opportunity came on their next date.

Well, it was not officially a date. If they’d wanted it to be an official date, they probably would’ve had to file paperwork with each others’ parents, and neither was keen on entering into some sort of controlling contract to oversee their relationship – even if it was a pretty fair bet that the parents would approve. At least, Kagami was reasonably sure her mother would find Adrien to be an acceptable suitor for her. She was less sure about how Adrien’s father felt about her, but from what she had gathered from Adrien, the man wouldn’t care as long as he had control over the situation.

So for now, their dates were low-key outings, which needed no more approval than any other friendly situation. It was a simple matter to enjoy a meal at a café together.

Except, of course, when Kagami recognized that vague, unfocused look that always preceded Adrien’s disappearances. He started to stand up and make some excuse, but Kagami quickly grabbed his wrist. Adrien’s eyes came back into focus, and he looked between her hand and her face.

Kagami…?”

It can wait, whatever it is,” she said firmly. “Stay.”

For a few months, Alya had been living the dream. She’d dutifully followed the heroes around, recording their efforts, even got personal interviews with them! Oh, they were amazing, especially Ladybug. It was hard not to fall in love with her.

Which of course, was exactly what Alya did. And that was fine, great even! Because Ladybug, as impossible as it might’ve seemed…reciprocated. It was hard to tell, of course, because Ladybug was usually only out when the city was in immediate danger, and when the city was in immediate danger, Ladybug was being professional. But there were the small things – the light blushing, the stumbling of words, the special preference Alya seemed to get when Ladybug was rescuing civilians.

And then Ladybug had kissed her.

It wasn’t much, just a peck, really, as Ladybug told her to stay safe. But at that moment, Alya knew for certain that Ladybug was interested.

It felt wonderful. Alya was giddy for days. The reporter and the superhero…what a classic couple they were! The danger didn’t scare Alya – if anything, it added a thrill to the developing relationship. Even if they couldn’t have “normal” dates, everything was just perfect as far as Alya was concerned. And it might have stayed that way, had Alya never noticed Marinette, eyes glazed-over, walking into a secluded alley. If only Alya had turned away, gone to video the Akuma wreaking havoc. If only Alya hadn’t quietly followed Marinette in concern.

If only she hadn’t seen Marinette transform.

She’d been too shocked to do anything but stay hidden where she was.

How…how could this be? How could Marinette be Ladybug? How could she keep this a secret from Alya for that long? How could she kiss her and then sit next to her the next day like nothing had ever happened?

Had Alya misread the affection entirely? Or was Marinette…toying with her?

No, Alya told herself. Marinette wouldn’t do that. She’s way too nice to…

But…Alya knew all too well how much Marinette was in love with Adrien. She’d never look twice at anyone else as long as Adrien was around.

But then, why would Ladybug kiss her?

There had to be an explanation. Clearly, Alya didn’t know Marinette nearly as well as she thought she had. And the way forward was clear. Alya needed to confront her.

So, with determination fueled by her hurt, confused heart, Alya set out to catch Ladybug alone.

Alya loves to flirt with her boyfriend when he's suited up as Carapace. Chat Noir, for some reason, is upset by this.

Supervillains were really good for her fitness, Alya had to say. She’d never been a couch potato, but the distance she could run without getting out of breath had noticeably improved since the start of the school year. She wondered if the same was true for others. Hmm. Maybe she could do a piece on it for the Ladyblog…

Of course, she wasn’t running away from the supervillains like most people were. She was running after them, to get the best on-scene footage for her blog. And today’s was unfortunately quite fast, so Alya found herself running all over the place just to get a glimpse. She was also on the lookout for Nino, having (unsurprisingly) gotten separated from him in all the chaos.

She grumbled as the supervillain jumped away again and Chat Noir chased after him. This fight was making for terrible viewing. Sprinting off to follow them as best as she could from the streets, she could really feel it catching up with her as her legs began to burn.

Two shadows flew over her, and Alya stopped to catch her breath and look up.

Well. That answered where Nino was.

Carapace and Ladybug landed neatly on a nearby rooftop, and Alya started climbing the access ladder on the side of the building to make her way up to them as Ladybug flagged Chat Noir down. She could hear the sound of their voices, but couldn’t make much out of what they were saying from her position.

She reached the top just as Ladybug left, much to Alya’s disappointment. However, Chat Noir and Carapace remained behind, holding what Alya assumed was the result of Ladybug’s latest Lucky Charm.

Well, even if Ladybug left, she still had heroes to interview…or tease, in Carapace’s case. This could be fun…

Heeeey boys,” she said as she pulled herself up onto the roof. Both heroes jumped and whirled around to face her as she held up her phone. “Are we gonna get to see another amazing takedown of Papillon’s latest supervillain by our iconic duo…ooh, and our favorite new hero, Carapace, too!”

She barely hid her grin as Carapace blushed.

Alya is absolutely certain she met an actual real-life wizard, and since Marinette is refusing to answer her questions, she enlists Nino's help to find him again.

Written for DJWifi December Day 21 prompt - Aged Up

AU where the akuma stuff starts happening when the characters are university-aged.

Nino’s phone rang far earlier than he would’ve liked it to, painfully offensive to his already painful headache. Groaning, he first tried shoving his pillow over his ears and ignoring it. Just as he began slipping back into a light doze, the noise blared out again. This time, he swiped his hand out and knocked the phone to the ground.

On the third time, he recognized the ringtone, and reluctantly dragged himself out of bed to answer it.

So I’m pretty sure Marinette is friends with a wizard,” came the voice barely a moment after Nino had pressed the ‘answer call’ button.

Alya,” he groaned, rubbing his temples with his free hand. “Can this wait? I’m hungover right now.”

Well, I’m not,” she said. “Thanks to Marinette’s wizard friend.”

Good for you,” he grumbled. “But unless he can cure me, it’s too early for this.”

He might,” Alya said. “Though it wasn’t a hangover cure, it was an alcohol cure. But first I need to find him again.”

And you need my scooter.”

And your brain.”

My brain,” Nino said, “is in pain. Give me a few hours.”

Alright then,” Alya agreed. “I guess I’ll go try to pry information out of Marinette again. Who knew that girl could be so evasive?”

She hung up, and Nino made his way to the kitchen of his apartment to get water, rubbing his temples the entire time.

Next time Alya wanted to scheme to get Marinette to confess her feelings to Adrien, Nino was definitely shooting down any that involved drinks with higher-than-usual alcohol content.

After defeating Style Queen with Alya’s help, Marinette is offered the chance of a lifetime! But it’s not easy to decide between her dream and her duty.

A Queen's Battle Rewrite focused on two premises: What if Marinette had been successful in giving Alya the Bee Miraculous, and then given more time to consider the decision to go to New York?

Thanks and credit to imthepunchlord and ryanidious on Discord for the names of Bee!Alya and alternate Akuma!Chloé, respectively.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Alya wasn’t hard to find. Of course she had been making her way up the tower to get a good shot of Style Queen. But right now, Marinette needed her help, so she jumped down to her and pulled her aside. Alya scrambled to put away her phone as Marinette procured the Miraculous, her whole face lighting up with recognition and excitement.

This is the Bee, rather than the Fox,” Marinette began. “I need you to…”

Style Queen interrupted, and Marinette shoved the box at Alya, quickly whispering:

Pollen will explain the rest. I’ll keep Style Queen occupied while you transform!”

Alya nodded and ducked away, as Marinette went to challenge Style Queen, dodging her blasts and drawing her away from Alya. Once again, she called on Lucky Charm, and received a glue tube. She didn’t have much time to figure it out under the relentless attacks, however, so she continued to scale the tower until she reached the area where Adrien and the akumatized rose were. It was there that she saw the flag, and got an idea.

Moving quickly, she snatched it up and covered it in glue, just in time to be cornered once again by Style Queen. Behind her, she could see Alya, now transformed, coming up the tower. Marinette smiled, knowing that her plan was falling into place, and charged the villain with the flag.

Style Queen became distracted as she realized that part of her glitter was now stuck to the flag, and Marinette saw her chance.

Now!” she yelled, and Alya struck from behind with her power, freezing Style Queen into place.

It worked!” Alya said excitedly.

Yeah!” Marinette agreed. “Now we have to figure out how to get past this shield thing – the akuma is in that rose.”

I can take care of that.”

Marinette turned, and wasn’t really all that surprised at what she found.

Plagg! But Mas…the Guardian said you weren’t supposed to help!”

Yeah, yeah, what does he know? It’ll be fine, I’ll be careful. And you’re just gonna fix it anyway, right? Besides, how are you gonna break this thing without me?”

Marinette frowned. She didn’t want to go against what Master Fu said, but Plagg had a point – the shield needed to be destroyed.

Aww, aren’t you just the cutest thing!” Alya cooed, moving towards Plagg, looking quite like she was about to try to pet him. “Are you Chat Noir’s kwami? Where is he, anyway? How far can kwamis go from their Miraculous? What…”

Not now!” Marinette cut Alya off. Both of them had used their powers, and were on a time limit, after all. She turned back to Plagg, coming to a decision. “Okay. Do your thing.”

Yes!” he said, delighted. And with the lightest tap of his tiny paw, he invoked Cataclysm.

The shield shattered. And so did half the city.

If that’s what happens when you’re being careful, I don’t ever want to see what happens when you’re careless,” Alya said, bracing herself against the destruction.

You definitely don’t,” Plagg agreed. “Of course, you probably wouldn’t survive long enough to see much of it anyway. Ladybug, you’d better hurry up.”

Marinette nodded, grabbing the rose and snapping it in two. With a quick motion, she captured the akuma, then sent the glue into the sky to restore the city. As the ladybugs swept over the city, she, Alya, and Plagg jumped down to a lower level, and the three of them shared a fist bump.

Alya detransformed.

It was a pleasure to work with you, my Queen. Farewell for now,” Pollen said.

I already told you, you don’t need to call me ‘my Queen’,” Alya said. “But yeah, it was good. I hope we’ll see each other again!” She looked hopefully at Marinette as she removed the comb and handed it back.

We’ll see. It depends on what I need to fight the villain, after all.”

How many Miraculouses are there?” Alya asked. “And what happened to Chat Noir? Is he sick? And…”

I can’t answer that, Alya. As for Chat Noir, apparently he misplaced his Miraculous.” She glanced over to Plagg. “I hope he finds it soon…”

He misplaced it‽” Alya said, incredulously. “What, did it fall down the drain or something?”

I’ll get on his case about it,” Plagg said, and zipped off.

Time for me to be heading out, too,” Marinette said, tucking the Bee Miraculous away.

See you!” Alya said cheerfully. “And if you ever need me again, don’t hesitate to ask! Hmm…I need to come up with another superhero name, it wouldn’t make any sense to be Rena Rouge when I’m a bee…”

That it wouldn’t,” Marinette agreed, and she bid Alya goodbye. She had a Miraculous to return.

But first…it wouldn’t hurt to see if Adrien wanted a ride back to the show…
